New TYLENOL

®

Dosing Instructions

Your safety is our #1 priority. We are taking new steps to reduce the potential for accidental overdose of acetaminophen—the active ingredient in TYLENOL® products — and to help ensure that people who use TYLENOL® Brand, and other products containing acetaminophen, use them appropriately.

As the first step in a series of changes we are making to help ensure the appropriate use of acetaminophen, we are:

  • Reducing the maximum daily dose from 8 pills (4,000 mg) per day to 6 pills (3,000 mg) per day
  • Changing the dosing interval from every 4-6 hours to every 6 hours.

These labeling changes will be consistent across all single-ingredient Extra Strength TYLENOL® products. We are working closely with other manufacturers of acetaminophen products to help ensure consistency in dosing instructions. These changes will affect the labels of the following Extra Strength TYLENOL® products:

Extra Strenth TYLENOL Caplets Extra Strength TYLENOL® Rapid Release Gels
Extra Strength TYLENOL Extra Strength TYLENOL® Caplets
Extra Strength TYLENOL EZ Tabs Extra Strength TYLENOL® EZ Tabs
Extra Strength TYLENOL Rapid Blast Liquid Extra Strength TYLENOL® Rapid Blast Liquid

Extra Strength TYLENOL® products with the new label have been available since November 2011. You can continue to use your Extra Strength TYLENOL® products as currently labeled.

Remember, it is very important to always read the label, follow the directions on the package and never exceed the recommended dose.
